Responsible To: Day Care Organiser
Accountable To: Home Manager
Qualifications: Appropriate Support Worker or Teaching Experience
Job Purpose:
In accordance with National Care Standards and current Company policies and ensuring the highest possible standard of care and support is provided to all service users within the home, it is the responsibility of the Day Care Officer to:-
Serve the service users supported within the service.
Ensure equality of opportunity for all with regard to educational, cultural, leisure and social opportunities.
Take into account emotional, psychological, physical and behavioral needs when planning and offering a service.
Assist in planning a daily timetable of activities for the service users supported within the service considering 2 and 3.
Work as part of a team – working closely with Day Care colleagues and Support Workers, promoting the aims of Day Care.
Be accountable to and communicate with the Day Care Organiser and Homes Manager.
Share information with the staff team regarding current features of Day Care, (e.g., aim/objectives of programmes, target areas, assessments/reports, developments with external providers) leading teaching sessions on an individual or small group basis as required.
Work closely with the speech and language therapist ensuring recommendations are incorporated into the care practice of all in conjunction with day service organiser and manager.
Work effectively and completely in all aspects of Day Care offered; be responsible for and develop specific areas, as agreed.
To use initiative and creativity in providing safe and enjoyable activities for all.
Work in partnership with service users, promoting independence skills and decision making.
Be involved with assessments of service user’s skills and abilities.
To act as day care link worker to individual service users, taking specific responsibility for the level of day care offered to those service users, exploring new opportunities / activities where appropriate, working with the individual and liasing with their key worker on aims and interventions.
To write reports and reviews when requested, attend service reviews of specified service users.
To keep adequate written records of all work carried out.
To appropriately care for and check equipment used in Day Care, ensuring educational, creative and sensory environments remain safe and in good order.
To attend and contribute to staff meetings.
To attend day care meetings within the home and within the company.
To identify training needs in conjunction with Day Care Organiser and Homes Manager.
Make full use of the resources available within the home and locality.
Liase with external providers of services in conjunction with Day Care Organiser.
To share responsibility for the day care budget.
To follow the philosophy of care operations within the home.
It is expected that Day Care staff will be aware of their professional role, and will keep up-to-date with any innovations policies in respect of care for people with learning disabilities.
