About Wantage Road
Wantage Road is a large, semi-detached house situated to the west of Reading town centre, next door to Hazeldene, another CHOICE home, providing residential care for three adults of higher ability, with mild to moderate learning disabilities and who have associated personal and emotional difficulties.

The home has four single bedrooms, a communal bathroom, lounge area, dining room, kitchen and a utility room, which leads out into the spacious garden.

Although Wantage Road is next door to, and is registered with, Hazeldene, it is quite a separate home. Individuals tend to maintain friendships with their neighbours in Hazeldene and may attend leisure activities together.

Our Philosophy
Our aim is to enable people who have previously had difficulties living in the community or in group homes to develop the skills and self-discipline to reach their full potential and to work towards a more independent lifestyle.

The needs of the people living in the house are regularly reviewed and met in a dignified and discreet manner. We provide supportive and stimulating care for the individuals who live here, enabling them to develop independent lifestyles.

We aim to help individuals develop self-confidence, self-respect, motivation and independent living skills, while at the same time preserving individual privacy, dignity and choice.

The service users are supported to carry out the majority of everyday tasks as independently as possible. This includes individual menu planning, shopping, cooking all meals, laundry and general household responsibilities.

People are encouraged to attend external sessions including both educational and work placements. GNVQ courses and ASDAN courses are promoted positively, enabling people to gain qualifications and new skills.

To provide this service we take a holistic, value based approach to ensure needs are met, encouraging independence and personal achievement.

Where is Wantage Road?

From Junction 12 of the M4, take the turning towards Reading on the A4 ( Bath Road ).
Carry on along this road until you notice a large park ( Prospect Park ) on your left. Turn right at the next set of traffic lights up Liebenrood Road .
Turn right at the large junction/roundabout at the top of Liebenrood Road onto Tilehurst Road.
Take the second turning on the left ( Cranbury Road ).
Take the first turning on the left onto Gloucester Road , turn right on to Kensington Road then second left onto Norfolk Road .
At the end of the road turn left onto Wantage Road and number 127 is 100 yards on the left.
